1830 Census, East Tennessee. Byron Sistler. Softcover, (1969), repr. 2006, 2010, Index, 282 pp.

This is the first volume of the three-volume series covering the United States Census of 1830 for Tennessee. The second, on West Tennessee, was published in 1971, and reprinted in 1996. The third, on Middle Tennessee, was also available in 1971. The present work contains the names of about 31,000 heads of households residing in the 24 counties of Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Fentress, Grainger, Greene, Hamilton, Hawkins, Jefferson, Knox, Marion, McMinn, Monroe, Morgan, Overton, Rhea, Roane, Sevier, Sullivan, and Washington. The area occupied by these 24 counties now includes, in addition to the original 24, the counties of Bradley, Cumberland, Hamblen, Hancock, Johnson, Loudon, Meigs, Pickett, Polk, Scott, Sequatchie, Unicoi, and Union..

Each name appears twice---once in the order in which it was listed on the original schedules, and again in the alphabetical index, with additional detail on sex and age groups, and a single area-wide index by household head. Each entry in the index is keyed to the microfilm reference and page number.
