1830 Census, West Tennessee. Byron Sistler. Softcover, (1971), repr. 1996, Index, 214 pp.
This is the third and final volume of the three-volume series covering the United States Census of 1830 for Tennessee. The first, on East Tennessee, was published in 1969. The second, on Middle Tennessee, was available in 1971. The present work contains the names of about 23,000 heads of households residing in the 24 counties of Carroll, Dickson, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Giles, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Hickman, Humphreys, Lawrence, Madison, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion, Perry, Shelby, Stewart, Tipton, Wayne and Weakley. The area occupied by these 24 counties now includes, in addition to the original 24, the counties of Benton, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Houston, Lake, Lauderdale and Lewis.
Each name appears twice---once in the order in which it was listed on the original schedules, and again in the alphabetical index, with additional detail on sex and age groups, and a single area-wide index by household head. Each entry in the index is keyed to the microfilm reference and page number.
