A Particular History of the Five Years French And Indian War. Samuel G. Drake. Paperback, (1870), 2007, 5½x8½, index, 314 pp.
This was the fourth of the five Indian wars which began in 1688 and extended down to the fall of Quebec. It was fought all along the English frontier but especially in New England. This volume covers the major events and also details the numerous minor skirmishes in which at least 1,000 were killed or carried into captivity. It provides a wealth of biographical data on the many minor participants in this war, based largely on original sources including diaries, journals, correspondence, etc. The fascinating narrative of Rev. John Norton, who made detailed notes on the prisoners he encountered during his own captivity, is included as an appendix along with extensive data on the Sufferers in the Louisbourg Expedition.
