This volume, the Index to the 1880 Census of East Tennessee, includes the Tennessee counties of Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Cumberland, Grainger, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hamblen, Hawkins, James, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Sequatchie, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington. There are approximately 108,000 heads of households listed.

The information contained for each entry includes the heads-of-household, including the names of persons living in a household of a different surname. Includes name of household head, age, race, sex, the county symbol and page number from the original schedules.
