The Damon Family of Wayland, Massachusetts. Richard A. Damon, Jr. Paperback, (1997), 2009, 6" x 9", Index, viii + 439 pp.

This work includes 11 generations of the descendants of the immigrant Thomas Damon, from England. Research indicates that there are potentially three separate lines of the Damon family in the United States, founded by settlers who arrived here in the early 1600s, two of them definitely from Kent County, in England and, in all likelihood, the third also from there. An extensive correspondence between D. Bradford Damon and the author was carried on for many years with a full exchange of data. D. Bradford concentrated on the Scituate line, by far the largest of the three, and the author concentrated on the other two, the Reading line and the Wayland line.

The sources of information are many, starting with published and unpublished vital records of towns, cities, counties, and states. Census records from 1790 to 1920 have yielded family data of great value. Additional sources are the town histories, many of which include family histories. Registries of deeds and probate records have yielded a great deal of data not available elsewhere, as have the many cemeteries visited around the country. A very valuable source has been published family genealogies, one of which is the Damon Memorial written by the Rev. Samuel Chenery Damon. One of the most valuable sources of information has been correspondence with family members. Many of these people have had a strong interest in the family history and have sent a great deal of information. While all of these people cannot be recognized here, deep appreciation is expressed to all.
